How to Calculate mode in SPSS?

How to Calculate mode in SPSS?: This is the problem of every beginners. In this tutorial, I am going to tell you how to calculate mean for a variable of interest from a set of variables of data.

Mode: It is basically a most frequent number in the data set. It is one of the measure of central tendency like mean, median. There can be more than one mode for a set of data.

Step 1: Import the Data

Import the interested data ,you want to work on.

As you can see we got four variables (a) Math – which is the scores of 6 students in subject mathematics, (b) Physics- scores of 16 students in subject physics, (c) Chemistry and (d) English in subject Chemistry and English.

You want to find out the mode of the given data of four subjects.

Step 2: Calculation

Click on Analyze ->Descriptive Statistics ->Frequencies

To Calculate the mean Click on Analyze ,choose Descriptive Statistics, choose Descriptives as shown below:

Choose the Variable for which you want to calculate Mode

After you click on Frequencies, a dialog box open such as given below

You need to put the variable of interest into the box Variables(s) (as shown above).This can be done by selecting it on the left, and then clicking the blue arrow button.

Click on Options

Now , Click on statistics and select mode.

Press Continue, and then press OK in the Descriptives dialog box.

Step 3: Final Result

Finally , you get the result of your interest as shown below

If your variables have more than one mode, SPSS only give one(smallest one) in the statistics table.

In the final result, mode for math is 66, for physics is 58, for chemistry is 87 and for English is 76.

In the Frequency table of Math, 66 occurs 2 times as shown in the above image. So, mode for math is 66.

In the Frequency table of Physics, 58 occurs 3 times as shown in the above image. So, mode for math is 58.

In the Frequency table of Chemistry, 87 occurs 2 times as shown in the above image. So, mode for math is 87.

In the Frequency table of Math, 76 occurs 2 times as shown in the above image. So, mode for math is 76.
